Our seminarian,
Joseph Vigil, is featured on one of Sacred Heart School of
Theology’s podcasts. He did a wonderful job telling his story.
Hopefully when others here him, they will be encouraged to consider
priesthood. You can find the podcast on the seminary’s website,
www.shst.edu under the “About Us” menu at the top of the page.
You will enjoy listening to Joseph.

Joseph Vigil (Ordained
12/15/06)

Matthew Wertin
(Ordained 5/26/06)
The Second Vatican Council
restored the Order of Deacons as a permanent ministry in the church.
A Deacon is a man, 35 year of age or older, married or single, who serves
the people of God as an ordained minister.
His ministry is three-fold: the ministry of Charity and Justice,
the ministry of the Word, and the ministry of the Sacraments and
Liturgy. Most deacons serve
their parishes on a volunteer basis (i.e. without pay) although some are hired
for full or part-time parish or diocesan ministries.
The Diocese of Pueblo has 27 deacons and 11 men in formation. These men are
scheduled for ordination in the summer of 2005.
