HISTORY

St. Anne’s is located in the neighborhood of Eastwood Heights, also known locally as “Dogpatch.” The area was originally tended to by the Benedictine Fathers of St. Leander’s Parish. Then in 1955, a Baptist chapel that was located on the Pueblo Air Force Base was purchased and moved to the eastside neighborhood. The newly moved mission was named St. Francis Xavier Cabrini. Soon the mission benefited from a donation from the Catholic Extension Society. The anonymous donor gave $10,000 towards the establishment and improvement of the mission and renamed it in honor of St. Anne. Bishop Joseph Willging dedicated the church on July 29, 1956.

St. Anne’s was granted status as a parish in 1961, and the priests who served the modest parish lived in a trailer and/or the back room of the church until a proper rectory was built in 1962.
