| Our Mission... |
| We, the small community of St. Joseph the Worker, of
Manzanola, Colorado, are committed to reaching out to
each other, our neighbors, and to the poor. Our
mission is to evangelize and reach out to welcome all
people, to strengthen the bonds of our community through
Eucharist and fellowship in Christ. |

History |
| St. Joseph the Worker Church is located on Highway 50,
forty miles east of Pueblo, in Manzanola. The small
community is situated on the banks of the Arkansas River and
is primarily dedicated to farming. It is an
economically challenged area, with a high migrant population
in the summer. St. Joseph opens its doors and provides
aid to immigrant families until they can become established
in the area. |
| In 1956, the state armory building in Manzanola was
purchased for use as a Catholic mission. The old brick
building appraised at $65,000, but was purchased for only
$10,000. Of that amount, Bishop Willging, the first
Bishop of Pueblo contributed half. The structure was
redesigned in 1958 to make it a more suitable church.
Today the mission boasts a congregation of seventy-three
families. |
