A message from our Bishop

Diocesan Coat of Arms

My dear friends in Christ,

I greet you during another year of ministry in the Diocese of Pueblo.  Our beautiful  mountains are one reason why we live here, but we minister here because of the beauty of our people in southern and western Colorado.

Thank you for the gift you are to this diocese.  If you are new here, I welcome you and look forward to meeting you.  I hope to visit with all of you who work in our parishes and missions as I travel throughout the diocese.

I pray that through your enthusiasm and joy in our faith, the Gospel message will be shared on every mountain, prairie, river and valley in the Diocese of Pueblo.

May God continue to bless and guide you.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Arthur N. Tafoya, D.D.
Bishop of Pueblo

On the shield, the City of Pueblo is designated by the crenellated wall which symbolizes old Fort Pueblo.

The Curving line that separates the wall, represents the Arkansas River which divides the city.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Representing Sacred Heart Cathedral, is centered above the wall and flanked on each side by a rose. The Rose to the immediate left represents Mary (Our Secondary Patroness as the Immaculate Conception) under the title of the “Mystical Rose.” The rose to the immediate right represents St Therese of Lisieux (“The Little Flower”), Principal Patroness of the Diocese.
